Hungry Harry is back! Help Harry as he travels around the world putting a stop to the mushroom gang!

HOW TO PLAY:

Walk - arrow keys

Jump - Z or C

Lick things - X

GOAL: Find the portal at the end of each level. Harry will get hungry over time, so make sure to eat enemy mushrooms as well as berries you find sitting around the levels.

TIPS:

  • Blue mushrooms are tough and can't be licked normally. If you eat a spicy pepper, Harry will turn red-hot for a few seconds. Use this time to eat the blue mushrooms.
  • If you lick while in the air, Harry can get a little extra boost. By licking on the ground and then jumping soon after, Harry can jump extra high or extra far, depending on whether or not you are holding a direction key down.
  • See if you can find every present in the game! You can get lots of berries from presents by licking them.

PROTIP!!!

Is Harry too easy for you? Press ENTER and choose hard mode for a real challenge!

Hi! This response has been a long time coming.

You can access the source code here: https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=32397. Unfortunately, I made my own method for this, and it is pretty hard to follow.

If I come up with a cleaner way to make these visuals, I will probably make a notice/post on this game, so stay tuned here. Otherwise, I recommend reading up on "raycasters," which can give you a very similar effect: https://lodev.org/cgtutor/raycasting.html

REAL NICE GAME!

I'm very impressed with how you managed to pull off 3d environments in Pico8 and make it work so well.

Dude... the 3D effect in 2D...just how... I've been struggling to do something like this myself... just how...

@FireskiesStudios

I made this game using pico-8, a 2D engine which is powered by the Lua language. I posted the source code here: https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?pid=59509#p

That being said, it's a little hard to follow, since I had to cut a lot of corners to make it fit in a pico-8 file. I had planned to do a write-up, but there has not been a whole lot of community interest, and I would rather work on new things. I'ld be happy to shoot you some advice if you have questions about implementing this in pico8 or another engine!

I primarily use Construct 2 myself, which is based on JavaScript, but uses an event system, you can code your own plugins for it externally, but otherwise its all visual interface, so for me I'm really just interested in the theory behind how it all works! I can figure out implementation not to badly, unless there's a bunch of trig, I tend to get held up with more complicated trig... How versatile do you feel it could be? My goal is  to do a sort of 2D breath of the wild type of camera

Please make this claimable so that it is added to collection, thanks!

I'm a little embarrassed to say that I am not sure what you mean by claimable. Can you help me out? I don't see any toggle for it.

Set a price for the game (like $1 USD or any other amount) then provide it at 100% discount.

At that point, the 'paid' game should have an option in the developer settings to make it claimable unless you explicitly disable it.

great game lad

so good

A fantastic technical achievement, and fun to play also!

Hungry Harry Potter XD, to be a Pico-8 game with 3D effect is great.
